CLEVELAND, Ohio It’s National Pigs in a Blanket Day, and while there are dozens of variations of the popular snack, there are just as many suppositions on their origins.
The earliest written record is in the “Cooking for Kids” cookbook produced by Betty Crocker in 1957, which taught kids to roll hot dogs in crescent roll dough, but food historians say they can be traced back to England in the 17th century, when manual laborers wrapped meat in dough for lunch.
There is also a trucker legend that attributes its creation to a diner in Oklahoma along Route 66 in the 1960s.
