Howland schools OK 2 5 percent raises | News, Sports, Jobs

bcoupland@tribtoday.com HOWLAND The Howland Board of Education has approved a 2.5 percent salary increase for all employees represented by the teaching and nonteaching unions effective for the 2021-22 school year. Treasurer Samantha Pochedly said the 177 teachers represented by the Howland Classroom Teachers’ Association and the 115 non-teaching staff represented by the Ohio Association of Public School Employees Local 034 will receive the increase. She said the salary increases will cost the district $420,000. Pochedly said the unions were in the third year of a three-year contract that ends in summer 2022 with a wage reopener clause for the third year. The unions received a 1.5 percent pay increase for the 2020-21 year.

Mason City Schools provides bonus to teachers working during pandemic

About 620 educators serving Mason City Schools will receive a one time cash payment for working during the COVID-19 pandemic, officials announced Monday. The 3% bonus is part of a three-year agreement with the Mason Education Association, approved by Mason City Schools board of education during a Monday evening board meeting. Few other school districts across the country have planned similar COVID-19 bonuses for teachers, including a $1,000 per employee bonus at Metro Nashville Public Schools, according to a report from the Nashville Tennessean. Employees in the Osnaburg Local School District in Canton received a $500 bonus in November, according to the Canton Repository.

Staff Writer NEW WATERFORD With so many things up in the air with COVID-19, the teachers and staff at Crestview schools decided to carry over their contracts for another year. On Wednesday, the board of education voted to approve a one-year extension, which includes a 1 percent pay increase, for both the members of the Ohio Association of Public School Employees (OAPSE) Chapter 300 and the Crestview Education Association. There is also the possibility of a 1 percent base salary increase if the upcoming five-year forecast shows the school will have a sufficient minimum $700,000 carryover balance for the years 2022 and 2023. Superintendent Matthew Manley told the board the staff understands the pandemic and effects on the state budget has made it difficult for the school district to know where the budget will stand for now, so they agreed to extend the contract for now. The current contract was set to expire in August of 2021.
