The South Dakota Department of Health has announced that adolescents between the ages of 12-15 can now receive the COVID-19 vaccine throughout the state.
The announcement came after the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention authorized the emergency use of the Pfizer vaccine for the age group.
“Given vaccines have proven safe and effective, offering them to this age group is yet another way to protect our citizens and our communities against COVID-19,” said Daniel Bucheli, communications director for the department.
U.S. Census data shows that 48,120 state residents between those ages qualify, although state law says parental consent is still required to vaccinate minors.
