the winds dealing with the friction. you can just imagine what areas near open bayous of water are dealing with that onshore or offshore wind. lately it had been offshore. and we had incredible footage earlier. i think that was the talk of the town. pretty much tampa bay draining out because of the offshore flow. and that happened well in advance of any of the strong winds moving in. the winds have really been picking up here over the past couple of hours there is a curfew in the city of tampa. i think everyone is heeding the warnings. and tampa, you know, has been spared over the years. but this is not going to be the case. now even though the center may not go over tampa directly, we re still going to get hit hard by this. and as the mayor put it earlier today, he said we re going get punched in the face by irma. and that s exactly what the case is here. again, we re only in the beginnings of what is going to be a very long night with gusts easily over 80, 90, and as you said, 100 mi
going to be dealing with this into tuesday and remnant low and sits and spins across the tennessee river valley. there is the radar right now. you can see the core of the strongest winds right here. then we also have the offshore flow. so tampa you are still going to get the potential for heavy rain and that storm surge moving. in it won t be the incredible storm surge amounts that we were predicting yesterday. but, still, very vulnerable coast line and the potential for, you know, water levels to rise. future radar shows this storm system moving north and westward into atlanta, georgia for the first time in history, atlanta georgia is under a tropical storm warning. that s incredible. we could see the potential for hurricane force winds moving into parts of georgia and the carolinas. there are your rainfall totals. obviously this is not a harvey story like we saw in houston. but still incredible rainfall totals of over a foot of rain. the potential for upwards of 4 to 6 inches. so fla
looks like it s continuing about what we expected. this system is just offshore marco island, naples area. we re seeing the very high winds, reports up to 130 miles per hour, so we re seeing the high winds. we haven t seen the high storm surge yet, but we feel that s coming soon. do you have any reports along the coastline of how quickly the water is coming in? some of the canals in places like marco island have been drained prior to the surge. yeah, i haven t seen any reports yet. we did get a report earlier from the naples area of the water actually receding by about four feet in the naples area. so that was a precursor to the offshore flow. when we get the onshore flow, we ll be expecting all that water to come rushing back in and also continue to rise over a very short period of time. it looks to us like marco island should all be now in the eye. is that what it looks like to you?
the 6 magnitude range so certainly this area is going to remain very active seismicwise as we go through the next year. let s talk about the weather. actually dealing with dry conditions. that s good. ridge of high pressure. it s going to be weakening. light showers working in down towards the south but for fukushima as well as sendai this area will stay dry and the winds offshore and that will be favorable as we go through the next several days. i want to point out. here s the proof. there s that offshore flow and fukushima power plant so that certainly going to be cooperating. the temperatures as we go through the next several days will climb up. a lot of sunshine along with the average high of 11, getting closer to that. finally i want to leave with you video coming out of myanmar. don t want to forget this area. march 24th we had a strong earthquake that bordered on the border of thailand and that one
