Formal Complaint Filed Against Public Prosecutor

Perjury judgement next week

Perjury is an offence which carries a maximum penalty of 7 years imprisonment. The prosecution stated in their submission that they have proven their case beyond reasonable doubt. Public Prosecution, Josiah Naigulevu said there is a sufficient body of cogent direct and indirect evidences supporting the prosecution assertion that former Prime Minister, Charlot Salwai, made in his sworn statement on April 23, 2019 in Constitutional case 3481 of 2018, were untrue and that MP Salwai intended to mislead the court. From their evidences, PP noted that former PM who was also in power when the creation of the Parliamentary Secretary (PS) position was made, told the court that a new PS position is created under the Official Salaries Act and the PM must obtain the approval of the Council of Ministers (CoM) first.
