Our area remains under a Heat Advisory until 11 p.m. The public is being reminded to adhere to precautionary preparedness actions, such as, drinking plenty of fluids, staying in an air-conditioned room, staying out of the sun, and checking up on relatives and neighbors. Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances. Be sure to take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside, when possible reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Wear lightweight and loose-fitting clothing when possible. To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air-conditioned environments. Drink plenty of water, use sunscreen, keep curtains and shades closed at home, and avoid using your oven. If you don't have air conditioning, visit a cooling center, store, or mall.
