or not. but i wanted them to have this, and do something about it. because i know if i wouldn t give it to them, nothing would happen. the bystander video shot by feidin santana you just saw there, it did make it into evidence, did make it into the public view and it changed everything about this case. before the tape, the only public narrative about this case was the police officer s claim he was fearing for his life and defending himself. today, after the tape was made public, north charleston patrolman michael slagger was arraigned on a murder charge. he spoke to a judge from jail. in a videotape conference today he remains in custody tonight. officer slager has now been fired from the ncaaorth charleston police department. he also got a new attorney this afternoon, after the lawyer who had been representing mr. slager, after the video came out. at a press conference today, that was interrupted several times by protests, north charleston s mayor and police chief said there s more
his sleep by officer slager who pushed himself into his house. eventually dragged him out and tased him on the ground. neighbors say that he could hear shrieks and screaming in pain. he was exonerated by internal review in that case but what s also telling. the gentlemen reported that he went time and again to the police department and that neighbors and witnesses went to the police department to complain about the what they describe as excessive use of force. yet it went nowhere. so that kind of speaks to what many on the ground are saying has been a police department with a separation from the community it actually polices and they ve been unresponsive time and time again to complaints that officers have been abusing residents in various ways. this is just one more piece of the broader puzzle and really examining the culture here and what s happening between the police and community. we ll wait to hear more. thank you, trymaine.

done we re here to help. an update on our top story out of south carolina. the family of walter scott is going to be speaking coming up at the top of the hour. meanwhile, moments ago we heard from mario gibbons, the man at the center of a 2013 complaint against officer slager for improper use of a slager. take a listen to what he said at a news conference earlier this hour. did you fear for your life at that point? during the scuffle? yeah. yeah because i knew what was going on. he never said nothing. he didn t announce he was the police. he just beated on the door. turned out it was a case of mistaken identity. slager had the wrong man in mario gibbons, and even after the formal complaint that he was tasered improperly slager was
officer slager whether he did not administer cpr because he thought it might be better if the suspect died? well certainly that shouldn t be the standard. the reality is he would have certainly had explaining to do. at the end of the day, we have to say would it matter to what the suspect, victim said if you match it up against the officer said. we always hope everybody s testimony is evaluated fairly and accurately and completely but would the officer have had the upper hand but not for this video? that s what s trouble. i would assume these kind of investigations are very difficult because there s a tendency for police officers stand up for other officers. it s understandable why. i mean it is. but you also have to tell the truth when these kinds of cases arise. how difficult would it be for investigators? police departments investigate police departments. we certainly know in this
