ATLANTIC CITY - An appeals court has overturned the attempted murder convictions of two men in connection with the near-fatal shooting of a police officer here.
Demetris Cross and Martel Chisolm have been serving 32-year prison terms as a result of an armed robbery interrupted by Atlantic City police officers in February 2016.
The men said they ran from police before a third robber, Jerome Damon, shot at the officers.
One bullet hit Officer Josh Vadell in the head, causing a brain injury, Friday s ruling said.
The second policeman, Thomas McCabe, escaped injury and fatally shot Damon as he tried to flee, it added.
