Appreciative that we are 9 percent better than the city is. And but, it still does not mean that we cant get better, last year was a tough year, both Violent Crime and the property crime and Everybody Knows the city wide and while it is better in the city i am happy that it is down 23 percent and our homicides will have one and the homicide that we did have was not gang related it was a domestic issue, and a family issue at a senior care home in the district. And so, knock on wood, we have not had any. Yes, it was a murder suicide and that was at a senior care home where there was a child of a senior that was living at the home that ended up unfortunately killing her mother and then killing herself in that situation there. But as far as the Violent Crime, related to gang activity, knock on wood that has been down but we know that we are going into the Summer Season where it starts to get warm and we have a number of events and we are hopeful that it stays that way. Robberies are down a
Start. Most of you should have copies of this if not, it is up on the board. Northern station, for those that dont know encompasses a fairly large area of the city and council of San Francisco. But when you look at that map, you can see that northern station really starts at the corner of church and market. And it goes all the way down Market Street to larkin, from there, everything north all the way to where you hit water is northern station. So, we have the lower hate, we have the haze valley and the middle fillmore and the western addition, and upper fillmore and Pacific Heights and the marina, and it is a large area and as you can see within the Northern District there are ten districts and a number of smaller communities that we encompass. This is number two. One of the things that this picture shows you here is the five district sectors that the Police Department polices during a normal workday. The northern is broken up into five sectors as you can see the largest one is the yea
District. And 14 percent of them are involving pedestrians. Some of the real problem intersections we have are speeding on the lamb bar street corridor and some of the stops find violations that occur throughout the district. Some of the things that we are doing, and we are running enforcement operations five to six times a month where we target specific areas, but the target is not necessarily to go out and give everybody a ticket for just a vai lacing. What i am telling the officers is that part of this is Community Engagement and so we may stop an individual for a Traffic Violation and just have a discussion about the fact that they did not stop they stop sign and they were driving a little too fast and there were times that we will give citations but part of it is not to be the hammer to come out and just arrest and cite everybody but to help you be educated on ways to avoid having collisions and the amount that we have. My hope is that there is a ten percent reduction in collision
Were there to engage them on exactly what it is that they could do for them. I provided to them, four different fliers and i have left a bunch of them here tonight and i am hoping that you will grab on your way out. And they are tips for you to give to anybody to avoid being a victim of a street robbery to avoid being a robbery of a commercial burglary and to have avoid having your car broken into and to avoid being a victim of a commercial robbery or burglary. They are there what i need from you is to take those and give them to your Community Members and educate them, and continue to talk to them about some of the things to protect yourself because that will help us, reduce those numbers. And i will talk a little bit more in just a couple of slides about some of the other things that we are doing, go ahead. Before i get into it, the last thing on the northern presentation for what we are involved in, even though you see the options the station handles a number of Public Events throug
Data breakers and many other large events. So, okay, the last portion of this presentation, is to me what i think is the most important. And this is about the goals for 2013. Lets go with the first one. I am trying to get a 5 percent reduction in crime. As you can see right now, our numbers are up. We have a long way to go. We really do. But i can tell you that i am not going to stop until we get to that level and if we dont get to that level we are going to continue to find other ways to figure out how we are going to do it. We will do it like we said through enforcement efforts, Community Education and hopefully, some increased staffing that we will have coming in the next 6 months to a year. Lets talk a little bit about traffic collision reduction. Some of you may know, what back in december, mayor lee, had an initiative talking about some of the serious traffic collisions that occurred and each station has a call on what we focus on five which say focus of some of the problem inter
