KINGSTON, R.I. – April 26, 2021 – Meg Jones, a University of Rhode Island doctoral student, has been awarded a prestigious Fulbright grant to conduct research abroad. Jones, who resides in
Newport, arrived at URI in fall of 2019 to pursue her Ph.D. in education. She will be traveling to Finland this August to work alongside faculty at the University of Helsinki and its AGORA for the Study of Social Justice and Equality in Education Group.

Awarded the Fulbright Finland Foundation Fully Funded Grant, Jones will research and collect data in service of her doctoral dissertation, which will examine global approaches to LGBTQ+ inclusion in teacher preparation programs. Specifically, her research will focus on LBGTQ+ inclusive practices within the broader context of the Finnish educational system.

KINGSTON, R.I. – April 23, 2021 – Four University of Rhode Island sophomores have been awarded the Ernest F. Hollings Scholarship from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, the most prestigious scholarship awarded to undergraduates studying the marine sciences. Since 2005, URI students have won 33 Hollings Scholarships, at least one every year since 2009 and one of the highest totals of any institution in New England.

Eight Florida State University students hope to study or intern abroad this summer as part of the Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship Program from the U.S. Department of State, barring any COVID-19 travel restrictions.
The Gilman Scholarship gives students the opportunity to study or intern abroad and emphasizes learning about culture and language to prepare individuals for a globalized world.
