Michael V. Walker’s greatest training for his work with young people came first from growing up in North Minneapolis and second from his 10 years as a high school and college counselor with the YMCA, where he encouraged teens especially young Black men to dream bigger.
Minneapolis Public Schools Principal Mauri Friestleben has been terminated from her role, citing her participation in a student-led walkout earlier this year. Friestleben, the principal at North Community High School in the Near North neighborhood, announced in a release that Friday was her last day.
Minneapolis Public Schools released a statement saying that on Monday, May 23, North High School Principal Mauri Friestleben will be placed on leave for the remainder of the school year.
