DULUTH, Minn. – The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension has confirmed that the Duluth man who fatally shot a police dog and engaged in a nearly 20-hour standoff with authorities was shot and killed by police.
The BCA says 37-year-old David Joseph Wayne Conwell died from multiple gunshot wounds. He was shot by personnel from the St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office Emergency Response Team. The incident began at about 8:30 p.m. Thursday as officers responded to a possible physical domestic assault.
Conwell refused to surrender, and at one point, he shot and killed Luna, a police dog. The standoff ended at about 4 p.m. Friday when Conwell was shot.
