The word gets out that bob dole is here and they all flock to him wherever he is. Then the stories start. Sometimes for the first time the veteran tells a story he has never told anybody before. And it becomes a very emotional thing. Hes almost like the minister or the priest or something. People come up to him and want to tell him a story because they know he has been there, and they know he is responsible for that memorial. That is quite a thing to watch. Very emotional. It seems quite natural seeing you here. [applause] i should have asked senator dole to come up and join us on the platform, but somehow or other i thought he should sit in the leaders seat right there with elizabeth. I want to welcome you all again to the sixth presentation in the leaders lecture series. This has been an exciting series. We have had some fantastic presentations from great leaders of the senate. And, of course, Vice President bush was here. We look forward to hearing from other Vice President s and leaders of the senate in the months ahead. This has certainly been an enjoyable, i know, and worthwhile program. And we are delighted tonight to have our friend, our colleag
Am going to need you here in the city and i need you for two or three days and i may need you longer than that and i cant tell you what im going to need you to do yet. But i know i need you. And they came. They began preparing readiness to be able to move folks from all over the state of minnesota, literally from miles and miles away to come to the metro area to be prepared to help us keep the peace. Over the course of the day, i met with my counterparts in minneapolis and st. Paul, chief arradondo, to talk about what missions they needed the state to help them fulfill. The department of Public Safety at that point was calling to say we are here to support you. We are your partners. Tell us what you need and we will backfill. We will fill in the gaps. Tell us what you need for resources and we will help you get. And we did get some very specific missions and in other cases we got no real mission at all.
