earthquake on march 11th. people in areas are asked to find high ground so they can go there if they have to evacuate. jenna: david, thank you. gregg: fox news finding disturbing evidence in libya that rebels are being tortured before they are killed, this iss rapid fire developments are happening on the ground. within past 48 hours be rebels have taken control of key towns as they roll toward tripoli. they are said to be closing in on the city of surt, moammar gadhafi s hometown. there is new videotape surfaced showing qaddhafi riding in his suv just south of tripoli although the date and time of that is unclear. jennifer griffin is track this for us now. she is at the pentagon. what is the status of the
that, from benghazi. it contains more of their control of the eastern half of the country. they appear to have almost or completely routed gadhafi s forces in the east and what is key here now is that from there, they are likely to move toward the city of surt. it is incredibly significant because surt is the hometown of colonel gadhafi. that s a symbolic city that he can not possibly afford to lose and one assumes he will mass all the force that he can to insure that his hometown is not taken over by the rebels. but the fiercest fighting today so far has been in the western city of zawia, just 30 miles west of tripoli. we hear that at 6:00 a.m. local time, the pro-gadhafi force, the armies and militias moved in enmass, driving the rebels into just a very small part of the
town before. the bedding serves as a place to store their bread as they move on to the next town. the rebels have pushed within hundred miles of the town of surt. it s seen as the biggest town here in the eastern part of the country for them before they to march on tripoli. good news, it appears that one of the libyan fighter jets that dropped a couple bombs that we heard today was earshot down or crashed here in the desert in the east. something that is making these rebels happy but it definitely underscores the fact that khadafy does have this trump card to play when it comes to fighter planes, it s up to him how savagely he is willing to attack his own people to put the rebellion down. gregg, the number of rebels we have talked to, there is only two options here, victory or death and they are not quitting.
pan around to show you some of the fighters. you can see the guns pointed at the sky. that s not without danger. those bullets do come down. the scene is, some of the weapons look like they re out of mad max, you have cutdown, pickup trucks, enormous weapons mounted on the back. this is an army that has made a lot of mistakes, it s often overrun its goals and had to retreat but they re here now and the sense is at least among them that they are here to stay. there are still dangerous areas, especially around the ritz hotel, their government fighters are still entrenched and also there are cities under qaddafi country, the city of surt, still flying the green qaddafi flag. so while there s a sense of celebration, we have seen celebrations in the past, in the six months in this war, celebrations which changed suddenly into a run in the other direction, but no sense of that happening
