our hearts go out to all of those families. thank you very much. other important news. isis has lost control of its self-declared capital in syria. u.s.-backed forces have ended military operations in the city of raqqa. that comes at a high price. this is what it looks like right now in this drone video obtained by cnn. the tremendous devastation after a months long assault. the u.s.-backed forces are clearing out the final pockets of resistance right now. it s a landmark moment in the decline of isis in the mideast. this map shows how little territory remains in actual isis control. let s go to nick peyton walsh against isis extensively. why is this victory so significant? reporter: this is the place they called the capital or the
raqqa. our international correspondent got rare access to the front lines for this exclusive report. reporter: we are now inside the city walls of raqqa, the capital of isis, in which they make their final substantial doubt in syria, and, really, the middle east. that wall, a key milestone for forces and the syria kurds and arabs who control 200 to 300 meters inside the city herement down that w200 meters, the forcs r and they don t move much in the daylight because of risk of snipers, or much in these streets, but night, the movement forward is, in fact, made. we saw u.s. forces here not far from the positions, not to be filmed or noticed, frankly, but it s them calling in air strikes and artillery allowing forces to move in quickly. i was surprised how little the
syrian situation, it s more murky. what we know is that u.s.-backed forces have breached the perimeter of the city of raqqa. once they move in and once they clear out isis from the city of raqqa, the big question is, well, what happens then? syria s a much more complicated baffled in iraq. battlefield in iraq. russian and iranian involvement, and of course the involvement of the syrian government itself. once isis is kick the out of raqqa, the bigger question is, well, who s going to control the city of raqqa? the syrians, russians, iranians, or will the united states have some say? it s still murky. but the big takeaway is that, look, even once isis is militarily defeated, it doesn t mean they can defeat the ideology. that ideology is going to take many more years to defeat, both in syria and iraq. it has been years, years of, quite frankly, misery for the civilian populations of both cities. who knows what happens next for them? thank you very much for bringing us up to speed.
near the city of raqqa. first time the u.s. military has shot down a syrian aircraft since the u.s. began fighting isis in the country in 2014. look who mueller has hired. one of the lawyers he brought in has such a record of hiding evidence from the defense, the supreme court ruled 9 to 0 that when that lawyer participated in destroying anderson, 85,000 jobs, that it wasn t a crime. but he hid the evidence. he hid the evident enron and four people innocent spent a year in jail. now, you bring in head hunters like that, the first four people he brought in, one was a person who had defended the clinton foundation against freedom of information act. brian: you wonder why the president is getting concerned and people around him are alarmed. meanwhile does newt gingrich really have a point legally? joining us now to weigh in is harvard law professor defense attorney and lifelong democrat allen dershowitz. mr. dershowitz, welcome back. dolls newt gingrich have a point? he has a point. i
shannon: u.s. backed syrian forces launching a major asize on the city of raqqa. it was one of the first syrian towns captured by isis way back in january 2014. it has been used as the capital city for the islamic state. it comes after months of preparation by the u.s.-led coalition of kurdish and syrian fighters. the effort to reclaim the city could be long and deadly but could also be a major turning point in the battle against isis. bill: can t come quick enough. u.s. leaders urging saudi arabia and six other arab countries to resolve their differences with qatar. those countries cut ties over the weekend saying the qatar government has supported terrorism. president trump tweeting this about the move today. during my recent trip to the middle east i stated there could no longer be funding of radical ideology. leaders pointed to qatar.
