Heading into a critical midterm election year, the top political concerns of Americans are shifting in ways that suggest Democrats face considerable challenges to maintaining their control of Congress.
we re back. developing now, firefighters in california are struggling to contain a series of fast-moving fires that have already reduced one napa valley town to ashes. hundreds of homes there have been destroyed and at least one person has been killed. the most devastating wildfire began on saturday afternoon. it happened near the town of middletown. if you don t know that area, just north of napa. within just 24 hours the blaze grew from 50 acres to 50,000 acres. forcing thousands of evacuations in neighboring towns. a lot of residents really only had minutes to leave their homes. this is some video shot by one man as he was evacuating along a state highway lined with trees and cars still in flames. another shaken resident described what he saw as he raced away to safety.
than 24 howevers. evacuations have been ordered for several communities including the town of middletown. stephanie is with us live from napa county. we are in northern napa county. the state of emergency declared by the governor affect napa county and lake county. they re right at a road closure where they re telling people to turn around because of these fires. that valley fire, really, really exploded quite quickly. going from 10,000 to 40,000 in just such a a little bit of time. and because of that, 5,000 people without power we do know about. there were four firefighters hurt. in stable condition with second degree burns. but we do know between this fire and another, which is 55,000 acres, there s a lot of damage, a lot of turmoil. they think there may have been
