reporter: we were going basically to the scene of where that missile strike took place last night on that residential building that killed several people because of course there is still a big rescue operation going on there. and we had just arrived at the scene, left our vehicles when the house in front of which our vehicle was parked was hit by a missile strike. it was a really heavy explosion, very close by. i would say maybe 40 or 50 yards from our location. so we then tried to go into a sheltered building. and as we were doing that i turned around, and you could see the second missile hitting the exact same area. we already know that there were people who were severely wounded on the ground there. it s unclear if and how many people were killed. of course right now there s a big rescue operation going on there. but i think it s important for our viewers to understand this area this was in, there was an active search and rescue operation in a residential area. and today
chief meteorologist rick reichmuth. rick: good morning, the town of rolling fork has about 1,750 people so imagine a small town like that everybody knows everybody, and now you re going to have everybody who knows somebody if you weren t yourself impacted by the storm. it s going to be a really rough day for people as the sun comes up just exactly one hour from now. this year has been a really active tornado season. we ve had 282 tornadoes. typically so far in the season we would have 174 tornadoes, and you get a look at that. this is just your statistical averages. march right there, we are headed into our what is generally really active months of april and may and june. doesn t mean that ll be the case this year but certainly that trend has been the case. all of this has been those storm s that have been coming across california, have made their way across parts of the south where its been really warm, above average temperatures for a long time, and those temps are still re
got clobbered with all of the furniture and stuff that was floating. that is how i got this. i got shoved into a wall. when i got the front door open and there was a surge, it took me to the middle of the yard and i fought to get back on the porch. the shear force of the monster storm. we are standing in the middle of some of the destruction. i am john berman in fort myers, florida. in hurricane ian, it is a hurricane again. it has intensified to a category 1 storm and after tearing a destructive path through florida it is headed at south carolina with 85 miles per hour winds and it is expected to make landfall around midday near myrtle beach and could bring life threatening flooding there after what it did here. parts of the state just decimated. south carolina s governor says that we know what is coming. thursday was the first chance to assess some of the damage. cnn is reporting at least 19 storm related deaths. that number will almost certainly rise. here in fort myer

that s the fastest job growth at any point of any president. our job market continues to show resilience as we navigate through this economic transition we re n.for for sometime i ve been saying what we need to do in this transition, we have to move from historically a strong economic recovery to a more stable recovery. you heard the president there. u.s. added 263,000 jobs in september, just slightly beating expectations. the unemployment rate fell to 3.5%, back to where it was just before the pandemic hit. employers are hiring, but the labor market is slowing down. this is the lowest monthly jobs increase since april of last year. today s report may not be enough to keep the fed from raising interest rates again next month all in an effort to try to squash inflation. investors are not happy today. the dow, s&p 500, nasdaq all down. all right. with us now is senior white house correspondent phil mattingly, cnn reporter matt egan, cnn economics and political commentat
