it s ideal in terms of the fuel it needs to intensify and strengthen. the storm surge is going to be one of the biggest components with the surge along the coast. 10 to 15 feet, the area in purple, 7 to 11 feet, that does includes city of biloxi. on the western side, 6 to 9 feet, places like camden, louisiana, very far away from the surge, 2 to 4 feet in that area. the outer bands, thunderstorms, gusty winds beginning to pick up not just in louisiana but several other gulf coast states including alabama, mississippi and portions of florida. rainfall is going to be the most concern. all of this heavy rain goes farther inland, memphis, nashville, those areas likely to get seven inches of rain from the storm. obviously, the heaviest to the coast where a foot of rain is not out of the question with this particular storm. one other thing to note,
that includes the city of biloxi. we talk about the wind damage here. that s the thing, it s the combination of both the storm surge and these devastating wind gusts of in excess of 100 miles per hour. that combination is really what s going to likely trigger some of the devastating conditions. the outer bands, wolf, will begin today. please do not wait until tomorrow to evacuate. do not wait until tomorrow to start boarding up your home. you need to do it today. good advice. get out if you still can. stand by. i want to bring in nadia. the mayor of new orleans says the city didn t even have enough time to issue what are called mandatory evacuation orders for areas inside the levy barrier. what does that mean for the people who live inside new orleans right now? reporter: wolf, it means they have to get prepared and they have to do so quickly. there s not a lot of time because we know this is a quickly-moving storm. as it reaches those warm gulf waters, they re expecting it, as
city of biloxi and the gulf coast when you consider here, here on the mississippi gulf coast, we had just thousands of visitors in town all week who were looking forward to winding down an event that grew people from across the country. i m referring to crews on the coast where we had 8,200 vehicles from, i believe, 47 states here in biloxi. do you know before this storm struck, we had 750 rvs along our waterfront? just right there exposed to the elements! you had to get them out of town two days before the storm started. without injury or anything was just fantastic. people listen to you and very good to hear and we are glad you have no injuries or rescues or anything to report to us. we hope that everything goes smoothly as the sun comes up we are going to keep checking in to make sure that everything is okay throughout the day.
few hours, and the big fear of course is that water coming in from the gulf. really want to hone in on biloxi. thank you so much for now. with me on the phone the public affairs manager for the city of biloxi. vincent, thank you for jumping on the phone. i know storm surge is one of the biggest challenges or issues you re fatesing there right now. as we look at live pictures of biloxi, what is concern number one for you at this moment? well, the concern in biloxi at this moment is we re hoping this is the worst of it. we ve seen wind gusts here of well over 50 miles an hour. one of the things we re relieved about is this thing had huge building that it could have 1 foot storm surge and could come in as a category 2. we re not seeing that. what we re seeing is a storm that has been fast moving and
and i think that low polls martmar matter and the white house will say the polls were wrong in 2016, won t pay attention to these now. as long as he continues to keep people excited about what he s doing from that base and does that via twitter and does that by talking about tax reform and does that by beating up on the media, i think this white house and president trump s advisers are confident that the base will stay. that said, the question of legislative accomplishments is a good one and will certainly have an impact on whether or not he maintains congressional majorities in the midterm next year. thank you both so much. appreciate it. pleasure. we re getting our very first look at the damage caused by hurricane nate. it is now a tropical storm but check out the view from ocean springs mississippi, that is just to the east of biloxi. drone video showing a catam ara and beach erosion apparent there. the storm surge in biloxi, this
