according to preliminary findings found in federal documents obtained by nbc news, that was eight hours before the energy company s low-pressure alarm indicated a possible pipeline failure so when the documents show the company shut down the line at 6:01 a.m. on saturday. obviously, a lot of people would like to know what happened in the intervening hours. the ceo of amplify energy, which tones pipeline, the defendant the company saying they acted as soon as they were aware of the spill. how soon was that? the coast guard released new images of the damaged pipeline saying it continues to investigate multiple causes of the leak. among those, one hypothesis is whether a cargo ship s anchor could have hooked onto the pipeline and causing it to rupture. coming up, even as the pandemic appears to be improving here at home, it s a very different story in other parts of the world. we ll talk to an expert trying to get vaccines where they re most needed. you re watching meet the press daily
that you re seeing as well and the effort for the cleanup? reporter: yeah, hey, jim and erica, good morning. the two things that we re focused on today as the investigation and the cleanup, but let s start with the investigation. we now know that a 4,000 foot section of that pipeline was moved about a hundred feet. so with the ceo of amplify energy said is that it appears as though it had been pulled and now looks look a semicircle in the middle of it is that split that 13 inch split. to put things into perspective this is a pipeline made out of steel, about 16 inches in dia diameter, covered in concrete. in a way, it explains why this preliminary report says that it was an anchor that hooked on to this pipeline, but the preliminary report also raising a lot of questions because it also says that the operator was notified of a low pressure and they were given that warning, but they did not shut off that pipeline until three hours later. so a lot of questions as to why
. the way technology is you can t figure out how to not spill or leak. it s like come on. it s not just us and our tax dollars. it has damaged all the wildlife that goes on within the sea. we re already having enough problems. there have been reports with animals washing up with oil on them. divers were investigating yesterday trying to figure out where the leak came from and why it happened. the ceo of amplify energy, the responsible party, said that the entire cavity of the pipe lynn is 126,000 gallons. so at this point there doesn t seem to be more fuel leaking out into the water. that s probably because there isn t any more to come out of there. they haven t figured out why this happened or the exact source of the leak. brianna. . i m kind of heartbroken
