In a statement signed by the Deputy Chief of Staff to the Governor, Prince Abdullah Adeyanju Binuyo, on Tuesday, the state government said the central mosque would remain shut indefinitely.
Binuyo said the decision became necessary following the inability of the Muslim community of the town to peacefully instal a new Imam for the mosque.
According to the statement, “as part of efforts to ensure the security of lives and properties in that axis of the State, Governor Adegboyega Oyetola directed that the central mosque be shut indefinitely to forestall further religious or communal crisis.
“Already, the mosque has recorded the death of two Imams in quick succession.

Three farmers in Oyan in Odo-Otin Local Government Area of Osun State were on Saturday allegedly attacked by some herdsmen on their farmland.
The farmers, who are siblings; Opeyemi Joseph, Nathaniel Joseph and Friday Joseph, were allegedly attacked by herdsmen on their farmland situated at Afoyin, Erin-Ile in Kwara State around 7 pm on Saturday.
One of the victims, Opeyemi on Sunday, said the Bororo herdsmen descended of them on the farmland while complaining over the farm destroyed by the cows.
He said the herders invaded their maize and cassava farm with cattle and started grazing on it.
Mr Olawale Olokode, the Commissioner of Police in Osun, on Friday said that N600,000 was stolen by armed robbers during an attack on a commercial bank in Okuku on Thursday.

TWO of the three persons shot, yesterday, by gunmen making their way out of Okuku community in Odo-Otin Local Government Area of Osun State after robbing a second generation bank in the town have been reported dead.
It was gathered that the gunmen wielding different types of weapon shot sporadically to scare the residents, who scampered for safety, after robbing the bank.
An eyewitness, Opeyemi Olayinka, who was using the bank’s ATM at the time of the attack, said no one knew robbers were operating until they shot into the air while leaving the scene.
