A 'red alert' denoting extremely heavy rainfall of over 200 mm has been issued for some places in Kalahandi and Rayagada districts till August 8, Monday morning, the Met office said.
Thus, the state of Odisha will remain under the influence of this particular system, due to which we can expect some fairly widespread rains over many parts of the state. Isolated pockets may see some heavy showers as well.
These rains are expected due to a Cyclonic Circulation over Bay of Bengal adjoining South Odisha and North Andhra Pradesh coast. The system is expected to persist over this area and is likely to become a Low Pressure area around the same region in about two days' time.
A searing heatwave roasted parts of western Odisha on Saturday even as overcast skies gave some respite to the coastal region from the blazing sun, the weather office said.
