by Contributor on Monday July 26 2021 The Octopus Creek Wildfire south of Fauquier is highly visible from Edgewood, Fauquier, and Needles, remains active and is currently listed as a wildfire of note by the BCWS. BC Wildfire Service photo The Regional District of Central Kootenay wanted to relay the information to the public regarding fires of note in the Southeast Fire Centre. Trozzo Creek Wildfire The Trozzo Creek wildfire, located approximately 7.5 kilometres northeast of Winlaw, is active and is currently listed as a wildfire of note by BCWS. Crews continue guard construction on Elliot Anderson Ridge, South Lemon drainage and along the Lemon Forest Service Road, while holding current containment lines on the west perimeter in the Trozzo drainage. The fire growth is toward the east (Baldface Creek) and south (Sproule Creek).

UPDATE: Octopus Creek wildfire more than doubles in size (UPDATE: July 25 @ 5:30 pm): The Octopus Creek wildfire continues to grow and has more than doubled in size. According to the BCWS, the blaze now sits at 11,444 hectares. It is still classified as out of control. Aggressive fire behaviour continues to be observed, though has reduced compared to previous days due to lighter winds and slightly cooler temperatures. The fire has backed down to the shores on Lower Arrow Lake and is very visible from Edgewood, Fauquier, Needles and surrounding areas. A total of 21 firefighters and four pieces of heavy equipment are on scene today.
