briefed on security measures in case a ride occurred, not only in l.a. but nationwide. superior court of california county official then, finally, at 10 am pacific time, on october 3rd 1995, eight months of trial came to this. we the jury, and the uvalde tight election find the defendant orenthal james simpson not guilty he read, nichols verdict. first and read not guilty. i remember thinking, they having done rhonda. and thinking, for some reason, it might be different. simpson, not guilty of the crime of murder. and section eight felony upon lyle goldman. and then i lost it. i don t know why i thought it would be a different verdict. and i was pissed. and you just go, wow, is this really our justice system? right, mrs. robertson it was unbelievable. it seemed really obvious to
that televised trial gripped much of this nation with its courtroom drama. i want you to remember these words. like the defining moment in this trial, the day mr. darden asked mr. simpson to try on the gloves and the gloves didn t fit, remember these words, if it doesn t fit, you must acquit. and acquitted he was on october 3rd, 1995, after the double murder trial lasted more than eight months. simpson was subsequently, though, found liable for the deaths in a civil case and was ordered to pay a $33 million judgment. today s parole hearing expected to last less than an hour. we have full coverage from a team of reporters and analysts that are getting in position right now. we start with nbc s katie beck, outside the nevada prison where,
there were other attempts, much like we re experiencing today, where there were questions raised, could it be connected to the simpson case? in chicago where simpson had traveled from los angeles, to chicago for a scheduled business trip, and there were questions about whether a knife could have been dropped there and so forth. so it is part of the lure of this case. and at the same time there is an important thing that comes to mind for me. if simpson was the perpetrator who planted a knife on his own property, a couple of things to think about. the night of the event, there was a limo driver waiting outside simpson s residence to pick him up and take him to the airport. there was a limited amount of time there. he was then in chicago for a few days, came back to los angeles, was later arrested on june 17th and was not released from the county facility, the jail there, until october 3rd, 1995. so he would have had a very
courtroom. gu no one expected this. after eight months of trial, it took 12 jurors just four hours to reach a unanimous conclusion. we couldn t believe that it was so fast the. it took longer to reach the jury restrictions than the verdict. simpson s fate was decided. we are missing, as you can tell, several of the attorneys. and i ve indicated to them i will accept the verdict from you tomorrow morning at 10:00. the judge decides to hold the verdict until the next morning. the world would have to wait one more day. stunned and shocked may be underestimates as far as reactions go. october 3rd, 1995, the sun rises and everyone everywhere is waiting and watching. we were at the beverly wilshire
