Four San Diego County educational programs two from the Poway Unified School District have been named winners of the 18th annual Innovation in Education Awards, presented by the Classroom of the Future Foundation.
The awards honor programs that motivate K-12 students to learn and increase student achievement. Educators apply for Innovation Grants in four categories, and a panel of leaders in the business and education communities makes the selections. This year’s winners are:
Achieve Award ($5,000 grant): An innovative program that is able to measure results or achievements that drive student learning. Winner is the
CyberAegis Team of the Poway Unified School District. The program inspires students to pursue careers in cybersecurity and trains students to compete in and win county, state, and national cybersecurity competitions.
OCEANSIDE (KUSI) – The Parent Association announced it will be holding a rally in support of parents wanting an immediate return to a full-time, five-day-a-week schedule of in-person instruction in the Oceanside Unified School District.
The rally will take place on Tuesday, May 11th, 2021 at 9am, at the District Headquarters of Oceanside Unified. The next scheduled Board Meeting for Oceanside Unified will start at 6pm that same day.
Ally Mineau, co-director of the Oceanside chapter of the Parent Association, joined Good Morning San Diego and says “this has gone on long enough. They’ve had over a year to plan, they’ve got plenty of money to make it safe, and yet our Board continues to ignore what is best for our kids and robbing them of their right to in-person education to the greatest extent possible.”

A Superior Court Judge has ruled that Oceanside’s Nov. 3 referendum on the North River Farms project proposed for South Morro Hills is invalid and that the 585-home Integral Communities development can proceed “assuming other pending litigation does not prevent it.”
The Legislature clearly intended to preempt referendums designed to restrict “development of housing within this state” under Government Code 66300, which was passed in 2019 to address the state housing shortage, said Judge Richard S. Whitney in the final ruling Thursday afternoon.
Oceanside City Attorney John Mullen said Friday the city has not decided whether it will appeal the case. The developer also faces an unrelated lawsuit filed by the local nonprofit Preserve Calavera, which challenges the environmental impact report approved for the project.
