Unionization Efforts Are Under Way in the Cannabis Space Cultivation and dispensary employees from Massachusetts and Rhode Island join UFCW union as part of a national labor organizing wave. A unionization effort filed for 17 employees at the Curaleaf medical dispensary in Hanover, Mass., went all the way to Washington, D.C., before a final decision on the results of a mail-in election was made earlier this month. Workers at Greenleaf Compassionate Care Center in Portsmouth look to unionize Daily News staff PORTSMOUTH In a milestone moment for cannabis workers and the medical cannabis program in Rhode Island, employees at Greenleaf Compassionate Care Center filed for an election to join The United Food and Commercial Workers Union Local 328. Workers delivered a formal request Tuesday that management voluntarily recognize the union in the workplace, UFCW Local 328 said in a press release Friday. If not recognized voluntarily, the workers will move forward with a formal election in the coming weeks. The workers of Greenleaf are the first at a Rhode Island compassion center to take the step of organizing with a labor union.
