While a lone piper played Flowers of the Forest on the harbour wall, a wreath was laid in the water.
As a pupil at the exclusive boarding school, Philip was a keen sailor and enjoyed many outdoor pursuits.

The Duke of Edinburgh, who died aged 99, had been making the arrangements for his funeral for at least 18 years. A deep and devout religious thinker, he believed his funeral should glorify God, rather than himself, insisting there should be no eulogy, or even a sermon.
He did, however, allow himself the indulgence of repeated references to his first love and lifelong passion – the sea – in the form of nautically-themed hymns and lessons.
