Sandown s Ocean Hotel before, during and after Saturday s fire. Around 100 firefighters - from the Isle of Wight and Hampshire - were involved in the effort to fight and control a major fire at Sandown s derelict Ocean Hotel, over the weekend. Flames were spotted on Saturday night, quickly taking hold through windows and the building s roof, creating clouds of thick smoke in the town. A huge emergency effort swung into action, an investigation was started, and hundreds of people have been back and forth to the scene. But how did it all unfold and what happens now?

Sandown s Ocean Hotel Fire Being Treated As Arson

A large blaze which ripped through Sandown s derelict Ocean Hotel on Saturday (8) is being treated as arson, police have confirmed.
Hampshire Constabulary says no arrests have been made following the fire, although it is speaking to three youths who were in the area before the blaze broke out.
As Isle of Wight Radio first reported, the Esplanade and High Street were closed as more than 45 firefighters tackled the flames.
