Following is a list of stallions whose first crops of 2-year-olds are represented in the upcoming Ocala Breeders' Sales Co. 2-Year-Olds in Training and Horses of Racing Age Sale, including the number of horses cataloged and the farm where the stallion is currently advertised.
Aside from operations like Ocala Stud where it's baked into their strategy, seeing a homebred on offer at a 2-year-old sale is quite uncommon. Carrying a horse along for that length of time in the hopes that they'll end up being an appealing lot for an ever-more scrutinizing juvenile market is a risk most breeders don't want to take unless they have to.
For all that Kentucky is known for in the Thoroughbred industry, the commercial 2-year-old market does not occupy a high position on that list. Because of that, the Bluegrass State address of Justin Wojczynski's White Pine Thoroughbreds stands out in the Midlantic May Sale catalog.
The number of sires eligible for consideration in the Power Rankings has grown from 39 after the Texas 2-Year-Olds in Training Sale to a whopping 90 after we passed the season's midway point. We finished with 94 last year, and I expect we'll blow that number out of the water by the time the last horse goes through the ring in 2023.
