inspector general found he authorized a media leak into an investigation into the clinton foundation. the fbi determined that mccabe did not tell the truth about what happened. jesse, obviously mccabe has been targeted by president trump for a lot of nastiness. what do you think this means for andrew mccabe right now? jesse: it s not good. let s remember, mccabe targeted donald trump ear that is how this whole thing started. juan: wait a minute, he targeted the clinton foundation. jesse: this lie was about that, yes. but lets her member he tried to take the president out. they hatched the insurance plot in his office, and when the president got wind of that insurance policy and fired his boss, james comey, then mccabe comes along and wants people wearing wires and getting trump out of office on democratically. and that is what this is about. this is the reason why trump was elected in the first place. people want to see justice in
there was a majority of the cabinet who would vote to remove the president. that s correct. bill: byron york, i know you saw it last night. we heard some of the headlines at the end of last week after hearing more of mccabe s story now, what do you think? it really is a stunning revelation and it is more evidence that rod rosenstein really did discuss wearing a wire to secretly record the president, really did discuss whether the 25th amendment could be invoked to remove the president, and that the f.b.i. really did open a counter intelligence investigation directed specifically at the president right after the firing of james comey to see if the president was some sort of russian asset. now, obviously mccabe has had credibility problems. remember he was fired for having a lack of candor, fired
selling a book, so rolls into this, but having said that, you know the fundamentals in those eight days, actually confirm what the new york had discovered on it with its own reporting sometime earlier. so it s not as if he s way out there in the ether making things up. the new york times did find sources that said that. mccabe was one of them, but they had to have more than one. and it s also true, it s just difficult to remember a time when two successive attorneys, fbi directors concluded that a president of the united states was likely engaged in a form of obstruction. you know, so james, let me ask you about this. because when it comes to using the whole 25th amendment to eject president trump, the stunning and incredible thing to think about being discussed, right, obviously mccabe says it happened.
election would come out may have played a role in some of the ways that things were done. nick, how does the president move forward from this moment? not that he s ever been slowed or cowed by facts, but how does he move forward in the wake of this reporting and make a case that the fbi under comey or mccabe was ever out to get him? this is clearly not the case. look, he moves forward in the same way he has throughout his presidency. he moves on. it doesn t really matter. i mean, look, to me, a really important thing in matt s story, it clarifies a seeming contradiction, which is why so public about the clinton investigation and so private about the trump investigation? and it turns out that the irony here, as you put it, is that because the same people were working on both cases, that in fact the first case informed the second one and they felt burned by that first one and they felt they brought the bureau and politics too much, and paradoxically made them
from inside the bureau, even from people who say, look, we never saw anything that was done untoward here, one of the criticisms in the fbi and d.o.j. is that [ technical difficulty ] they assigned the same groups of agents to them both. and the logic of that was this will help us keep it secret, right, and it will make sure our best people are on it. the flipsid3 to that is by bringing them into headquarters, you put a bull s-eye right on the center of the fbi and you put the same team on both. if anything happens, if there are any mistakes with one case, it jeopardizes the sort of it allows people to criticize the whole thing and it puts a bull s-eye at the heart of the fbi. and that is exactly what happened. obviously mccabe has been fired. he s been criticized in the internal investigation, you know, comey s been fired.
