Derbies herald GPL match week 28
June 1, 2021
The depth of Accra Hearts of Oak’s explosive form will be tested by local rivals Accra Great Olympics when the two sides lock horns in a crucial week 28 Ghana Premier League (GPL) fixture on Sunday at the Accra Sports Stadium.
The Accra derby, noted for the fireworks it generates, does not only have the customary bragging rights at stake for both sides but also the opportunity to extend their title ambitions with seven games remaining.
Hearts are at the summit with 49 points whilst third-placed Olympics trail the “Phobians” by five points on 44 points and are hoping to close the gap by snatching all three points at stake.

Medeama SC striker Prince Opoku Agyemang has disclosed why his stint with South African Premier League side Cape Town City FC was cut short.
Agyemang joined City in June last year on a one-year loan deal with an option to sign him on a permanent deal until 2024.
The 28-year-old, however, failed to make an impact in South African football and his stay in Cape Town was cut short to only six months.
Reports from the Rainbow nation indicated that the Citizens were not convinced of the Ghanaian’s display hence replaced him with new signing, Zambian striker Justin Shonga.
However, Agyemang has given a different dimension to the report, claiming he left the club because of the rules in the South African championship that does not permit more than five foreigners to play for a club at the same time.
Kotoko succumb to Medeama
Medeama SC momentarily moved to the summit of the Ghana Premier League (GPL) when they rallied from behind to beat Asante Kotoko 2-1 at the Obuasi Len Clay Stadium in a frenetic affair characterized by near-misses.
Kotoko set the tone for a third successive win at their newly adopted homegrounds when they seized an early lead through winger Emmanuel Gyamfi in the 12th minute but a spirited comeback from the visitors led to a leveler from returnee marksman Prince Opoku Agyemang in the 30th minute before midfielder Richard Boadu grabbed the winner with seconds to end the first-half.
