opposing this bill and we re waiting to hear from more progressive democrats that, is for certain but you the republicans have a very slim majority in the house, right? democrats have a slim majority in the senate. you have a democrat in the white house. compromise, negotiation, that s part of the deal with divided government as there is right now. i mean, why aren t you willing to compromise more and to negotiate more? what it sounds like you re being an obstructionist here. well, the american people gave the house republicans a majority when we ran on fiscal responsibility. very slim majority. we ran on cutting spending and the american people gave us that majority. but this does cut spending? we spent 90 days negotiating a debt ceiling increase when the senate, white house were m.i.a. and most didn t want to raise the debt limit. we wanted to cut spending so much and very few republicans currently in congress have ever voted for a debt ceiling increase however we came to
cooperation, trying to make sure the documents are properly returned what is critical here. as opposed to the more obstructionist path that former president trump took, which is why he faces more likely indictment, in my view, for the obstruction he engaged in over the last 18 months. obstruction he engaged in over the last 18 months. would you expect the attorney general last 18 months. would you expect the attorney general to last 18 months. would you expect the attorney general to be last 18 months. would you expect the attorney general to be under - attorney general to be under pressure not to appoint a third special counsel? irlat pressure not to appoint a third special counsel? pressure not to appoint a third special counsel? not yet. partially whatl special counsel? not yet. partially what i expect special counsel? not yet. partially what i expect at special counsel? not yet. partially what i expect at the special counsel? not yet. partially what i expect at the
fire sale, if you all of subcommittee chairmanship s. and rules, and they re throwing out to people to get votes. the problem is even if they re able to get peoples votes, which they have not been able to do, they re going to have to keep those promises. which means they re giving out subcommittee putting rules in place that will grinds institution to a halt. and any one member can be an obstructionist. that is the problem here. they are making deals that can paralyze this institution. what will happen? what could happen if kevin mccarthy can not get the votes? because at this point in time, and 11:30 pm, friday night, january 6th, he does not have them. yeah, this will continue. there has to be a speaker of the house. we cannot move forward without a speaker of the house. it is not to be mccarthy, asked me someone. else and they re gonna have to figure out who that can be, who they can live with if it s not kevin mccarthy. he might be able to cut a deal like i just mention
holdouts that consistently voted against mccarthy. in the end they did get some concessions. they got more spots in the house rules committee. for example, an important committee on capitol hill, but this is certainly just the pattern that we have seen from the house freedom caucus over nearly the last decade trying to pressure house republican leaders at every turn. i don t take orders from anyone in this town. reporter: they have become some of the most obstructionist. it gives us the power of negation, the power of no. reporter: and antagonistic members on the hill. fed up with the ways of the swamp and fed up with leadership that fails us telling us to vote along with a democrat agenda that is completely failing america. reporter: the house freedom caucus, a small but feisty group of republican rebels that has become a thorn stuck firmly in the side of republican leadership for nearly a decade. what i do not support is
