pardon power to commute scooter libby s prison sentence when the valerie plame case was all done and finished. he didn t pardon him. bush basically thought that would be a bridge too far, even for him. and that was after his white house counsel advised against it, saying libby had never even accepted responsibility for his crime. sound familiar? well, anyway, we also know that turned into a big fight. scooter libby had been, in dick cheney s view, a loyal aide. and he was imploring bush to go further and issue the full pardon. president bush never yielded, which is pretty interesting when you think about how history looks back on these things. nobody thought libby would ever get the full pardon. and then, years later, donald trump, who s known to have feuded with the bush family, suddenly took this interest in the case and issued a full pardon for libby for those obstruction crimes. why would donald trump pardon a bush aide when, again, you have this antipathy toward the bush family. t
