Our 2019 Hyundai Veloster N Got Better with Age

Our 2019 Hyundai Veloster N Got Better with Age Mike Sutton © Michael Aaron - Car and Driver Our Hyundai hot hatch concludes its 40,000-mile test with quirky high-performance charm and notably quicker acceleration. 40,000-Mile Wrap-Up That it took almost two years to complete our Hyundai Veloster N s long-term road test was not because we didn t enjoy driving it quite the opposite, in fact. No, the N s lengthy tenure was largely the result of it simply not being as well outfitted for long-distance treks as the larger, more accommodating vehicles in our stable. Along with some quarantine-related downtime, that shortcoming left Hyundai s effervescent hot hatch to mostly ply roadways close to home, only occasionally venturing across Michigan s state line and usually with just one or two people aboard. But the N s extended stay did give us ample opportunity to reflect on its place in the automotive universe and how for many drivers its essence seemed to get bette

2021 Honda CR-V Hybrid Long-Term Road Test: Introduction

Introduction We invited a 2021 Honda CR-V to join our long-term fleet so we could spend some quality time (and 40,000 miles) with Honda s bestseller and the fifth-bestselling vehicle in the United States. We chose the hybrid because it s new to the lineup and because we liked the 212-hp fuel-sipping powertrain in the Accord. In the CR-V, the system boosts fuel economy and performance, making it the choice for buyers who want efficiency and power. Those customers will have to shell out for it, though, given the CR-V Hybrid sits at the top of the range. In addition to shaking down the powertrain and seeing if it can deliver the promised fuel economy, we re hoping this compact crossover the brand s first with hybrid power to make it to the U.S. will give us a glimpse at the future of Honda, which will soon phase out gas-only powertrains in Europe.

Genesis had potential, but its debut vehicle and its follow-up act, the G80 mid-size sedan, stood out mostly for their value. Then came the G70, the first Genesis that wasn t essentially a rebadged Hyundai. It was a real star that catapulted the marque from the outer tier of automotive luxury subbrands into the white-hot center of the premium market. Last year the launch of the sumptuous GV80 crossover cemented Genesis s real-deal status. Or at least that s what should have happened. But we re still not sure most people know what Genesis is.

Our 2019 Porsche Cayenne Hits a Rough Patch

Our 2019 Porsche Cayenne Hits a Rough Patch K.C. Colwell © Michael Simari - Car and Driver At the 32,000-mile mark, a clunky transmission and some unfortunate mishaps have marred our Cayenne ownership experience. 30,000-Mile Update At our last checkup, our long-term Cayenne was the perfect patient. Only a certified quack in desperate need of cash could have found something fundamentally wrong with our Porsche SUV. Yet, while we have yet to encounter a serious problem with it, a few smaller concerns have crept up in recent months. The most alarming issue is the unbecoming low-speed behavior of its automatic transmission. Although it hasn t been helped by Michigan s frigid winter weather, the clunky, jerky downshifts and stop-start driveline jolts that we ve experienced recently are so uncharacteristic of its ZF 8HP eight-speed gearbox that one misinformed editor wrongly jabbed Porsche for not fitting the Cayenne with the ZF unit. This is somewhat understanda
