A Border Patrol agent was arrested on allegations he aided in the smuggling of cocaine through the checkpoint in Falfurrias in exchange for money.
Oberlin Cortez Pena Jr., 22, of La Joya, was arrested on July 9 after a criminal complaint accused him of accepting $1,000 in exchange for helping a vehicle with at least five kilograms of cocaine on two separate occasions, the U.S. Attorney s Office said in a news release.
Pena is accused of using his knowledge as a Border Patrol agent to act as a scout and provide information about which inspection lanes to use, as well as how to conceal drugs and distract K-9 units at the checkpoint.
