This phenomenon may not be as much intensive among such aspirants in other political parties, mainly the Pakistan People’s Party and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz, owing to various reasons; one major reason is that they are receiving applications and their respective parliamentary boards will take a decision on final list of candidates. There is also an 11-member parliamentary board of PTI, headed by Prime Minister Imran Khan, who is the chairman of the party as well. Sources close to the board, however, say that there is no plan to seek applications from the aspirants of the Senate ticket.

DawnNewsTV/File PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government on Wednesday announced that it would investigate a recently-surfaced video showing members of the provincial assembly with mounds of cash received as purported bribe for changing loyalties in the 2018 Senate elections. “We will get to the bottom of the [horse-trading] matter and will set up an inquiry commission for it in the due course of time,” spokesman for the government Kamran Khan Bangash told Dawn. He said the government would constitute an independent inquiry commission instead of a judicial commission.

Speaking in Geo News programme ‘Aj Shahzeb Khanzada Kay Sath’, he said the video viral on the social media currently was made in 2018 when they were given money by the PTI for joining the party. He said Pervaiz Khattak had distributed money for making the Qaumi Watan Party activists join the PTI. He said he was also promised a party ticket for general election and a ministerial slot after his election to the assembly. He said they were given money at KP Assembly Speaker’s house, and he did not know at that time that a video was being made. He said even he was asked to return money later on.
