Monarchs condemn shooting of Ekiti Oba, seek arrest of culprits

Punch Newspapers Sections Abiodun Nejo, Ado Ekiti Published 4:54 pm Traditional rulers in Ekiti State on Saturday condemned the shooting on Friday evening of one of them, the Elewu of Ewu Ekiti in the Ilejemeje Local Government area, Oba Adetutu Ajayi. Oba Ajayi, who was travelling along Ewu Ekiti-Ayetoro Ekiti Road, was attacked by armed men, suspected to be kidnappers, who shot at his car. The monarch, who sustained gunshot injuries, is at present receiving medical attention at a tertiary hospital in the state. The attack on the traditional ruler came barely 24 hours after gunmen invaded a petrol station at Isan Ekiti in the neighbouring Oye Local Government Area and abducted the manager of the station, Itakorodo Adebayo, after sporadic gunshots.

Government has no plans to cede Ekiti land for ranching - Council of Traditional Rulers

The Ekiti State Council of Traditional Rulers says allegations against Governor Kayode Fayemi over alleged plans to cede lands to some persons for cattle ranching or grazing is not true. The Council says Governor Fayemi has no plans to cede an inch of the state’s lands to any group of people for ranching as alleged. The monarchs were reacting to allegations in a publication by some traditional rulers under the aegis of Majority Obas in Ekiti Land (MOBEL) alleging that Governor Kayode Fayemi intends to cede the states land. The Alawe of Ilawe Ekiti, who is the Chairman of the State Council of Traditional Rulers, HRM Oba Adebanji Ajibade Alabi, AFUNTADE 1 made the clarification while reacting to a statement issued by the Olomuo Oke of Omuo Oke, HRM Oba Vincent Otitoju and Secretary, Onikun of Ikun Amure Ekiti Oba Olatunde Olusola and some Obas.
