Opioid settlement money will help Guam measure addiction on island

Guam doesn’t fully understand the scope of its opioid addiction problem, according to Attorney General Leevin Camacho, who said the island now plans to perform more toxicology tests on dead people, using $80,000 from a new court settlement.
Guam is among the states and territories that sued national consulting firm McKinsey & Company for its role in helping Purdue Pharma and other opioid companies promote their drugs, including oxycontin.
The company reached a $573 million settlement with states and territories, announced Friday.
”They worked with Purdue Pharmaceuticals to target high-prescribers and they encouraged physicians to prescribe oxycontin, knowing of their addictive properties,” Camacho said during a press conference Friday morning.
