Eight inmates are charged with the attacks on deputies at the county jails, the incidents causing the sheriff to shut down the jails for several days. Injuries include bumps to the head and bite marks by an inmate who was restrained. We have deputies that enforce the rules and deputies that dont enforce the rules, so the ones that enforce the rules are the ones that become the focus of peoples anger or frustration. Half of those charged were in jail on murder charges. Three others had violent offenses like burglary and having a gun. We have to deal with making sure our staff are equipped, not just with, safety equipment, but also with the ability to deescalate situations and deal with people.
