More steps taken toward creation of new airport
The Oak Ridge City Council took two actions Monday night involving the future construction of a general aviation airport in west Oak Ridge at Heritage Center near the former K-25 site.
The measures were steps toward acquiring land for the airport. City Council approved both measures unanimously at its meeting.
The first action involved authorizing City Manager Mark Watson to take actions toward the eventual purchase of private land for the airport, such as getting land surveys and contract negotiations, provided that it’s within funding already available from grants. A memo included in the City Council agenda stated this measure is so that the city can acquire two buildings for the airport that are owned by JMM Realty.
