Old Dominion University is the most affordable doctoral institution in Virginia, has an R1 Research classification, a soon-to-be-integrated medical school, and has continued to develop new programs in high-demand sectors such as cybersecurity and maritime. From this bird’s eye view, ODU seems to be innovating, redeveloping, and expanding, but closer inspection reveals the University.
On Thursday, Sept. 14, Brian O. Hemphill, Ph.D, and Alfred Abuhamad, M.D., the Presidents of Old Dominion University and Eastern Virginia Medical School, respectively, announced that their merger will officially be moving forward. The Virginia General Assembly wrote to include funding for the integration in an amended budget that was signed last Thursday, Sept. 7, .
Money from Virginia's amended budget, which was approved on Sept. 14 by Gov. Glenn Youngkin, will go toward the integration of Old Dominion University and the Eastern Virginia Medical School.
