CANTON – The city will continue its Wi-Fiber surveillance system expansion in northeast Canton.
City Council on Monday authorized the mayor or public safety director to enter a $108,150 contract with the Maryland-based Wi-Fiber LLC for the purchase and installation of 11 cameras and two license plate readers. The equipment will be mounted to eight poles, which each require an electric meter estimated to cost $18,400 total.
Canton Police Chief Jack Angelo, who called into the council meeting, said the Stark Metropolitan Housing Authority (SMHA) placed the poles for security cameras about a decade ago. They never did put cameras into use that they had put on those poles, so they offered the poles to us to put our cameras on, he said.
