American Fork Fire grows to 5,200 acres American Fork Fire grows to 5,200 acres By: MTN News and last updated 2021-07-20 19:32:16-04 GREAT FALLS — The American Fork Fire and the O Hearn Creek Fire have now burned together, and are now being reported as the American Fork Fire ( The fire is burning about 24 miles southwest of Harlowton in the White Sulphur Springs Ranger District of the Helena-Lewis & Clark National Forest. As of Tuesday morning, it had burned an estimated 5,200 acres. There have been no reported injuries or damaged structures. The cause of the fires is believed to be lightning. Firefighters will attempt to hold the fire east at the Blacktail Fire scar and hold west of the Forest Service boundary. Structures in Shields Valley will continue to be assessed. Crews will also hold constructed line along eastern perimeter and continue to use aviation resources to pick up spots and aid in suppression. Additional resources, including a Type II team,

Montana Wildfire Update For July 19, 2021

The National Interagency Fire Center reported 8 new fire starts in Montana Sunday that launched light initial attacks by federal, state and local firefighting resources. Two of the fires were out or contained by Sunday night. The largest of the fires is the 51-acre Keller Welborn Fire burning in grass, sagebrush and timber north of Interstate 94 and along Keller Welborn Road in Yellowstone County. The National Interagency Situation Reporting Program identifies 73% of the current wildfires in Montana as human-caused and 27% as lightning-caused. Both the Northern Rockies and the national fire preparedness levels are at fire preparedness level 5, the highest level, because of active fire activity in the region.
