Myanmar’s military junta has carried out over 300 air strikes targeting the civilian population across the country in the two years since its coup, according to the Myanmar Institute for Peace and Security (MIPS).
The group added that regime forces’ artillery and airstrikes have displaced tens of thousands of civilians, creating a humanitarian crisis in southeastern Myanmar.
Noeleen Heyzer’s call comes as fighting intensifies in areas controlled by the KNU in Karen State and Bago Region, causing more civilians to flee their homes.
