Teachers in Myanmar on Friday became the latest group to join a civil disobedience campaign with some lecturers refusing to work or cooperate with authorities in protest against the military's seizure of power.The civil disobedience campaign started among medical workers.
The United Nations Security Council called for the release of Myanmar leader Aung San Suu Kyi and others detained by the military as diplomatic and financial pressure grew on the generals who seized power this week to restore democracy.

Thousands of people took to the streets of Yangon on Saturday to denounce this week s coup and demand the release of elected leader Aung San Suu Kyi, in the first such demonstration since the generals seized power. Military dictator, fail, fail; Democracy, win, win, protesters chanted, calling for the military to free Nobel Peace laureate Ms Suu Kyi and other leaders of her National League for Democracy (NLD) who have been detained since the coup on Monday.
