the investigation entirely was handed over by rosenstein to mr. mueller when he appointed him. pete: it s all part of the long continuum, no doubt about it. as doj has realized this information s going to get out, they ve run to the media and leaked important details. look at these headlines, the washington post saying the secret intelligence source who aided mueller probe is at center of latest clash between nuñes and justice department. then in the new york times, code name crossfire hurricane, the secret origins of the trump investigation. again, more information about this potential source. then the washington post, bigger than watergate, trump joins push by allies to expose role of an fbi source. so someone s out there leaking information about in this potential individual. and then doj puts out this statement around the same time. they say: we treat disclosures of classified information seriously, and we prosecute those responsible regardless of whether the person is withi
to pay russians to lie about the president. that s the real evidence of collusion in this case. molly: one of the theories that is out there and that s partially why this investigation is ongoing and my nuñes why nuñes has been calling for answers is that the dossier potentially could have been used to get these fisa warrants that were used to look into the communications of the trump campaign. do you think that s the case, that the dossier led to this investigation and some of the investigative tactics that may have been taken by the fbi? well, i m deeply troubled that as a member of the judiciary committee with oversight respondent to answer -$=juuháhat question, i donlity know it. and the reason why is because when we had the attorney general, the deputy attorney general and the fbi director before our committee, they told us we weren t allowed to know the answer. that is totally unacceptable. the american people have a right to know whether their money was used to go and cur
letter that you talked about prior to her being interviewed. another thing i find really interesting about what s going on, very early on representative nuñes from the house intelligence committee was calling out what he thought were unfair things going on. he was calling out the deep state. deep state and democrats went after him. really hard, sidelined him, tried to discredit him, and in some ways had to take a backseat. brian: he did take a backseat. rachel: he did. and i wonder if this new information is going to restore his reputation. brian: we understand when we started the show now mccabe, the former deputy fbi directer and stroke are now going in front of the intelligence committee to finally get these questions right to their face. and he s been asking for months even with chris, with ray wra in charge, he budget giving this guy up. steve: the top republican leaders in congress had been saying, hey, the fbi, the doj,
motivated, you d expect an unusual spike and for reasons that were unclear to those that were reviewing these requests. they all go through a reviews process. you can t just request to unmask and then just have it happen just like that. arthel: and in congressman nine necessary tweet, he s nine nuñes tweet, he s implying should americans be alarmed? and secondly, what s behind these allegations? sure. this is not a case where the government is listening in on americans. in fact, in all of these cases, i believe, this is intelligence collection that s happening, normal intelligence collection that s happening on normal intelligence targets. if americans happen to be picked up on those conversations, the purpose of masking their identity is so that their privacy is protected. that s always been the case. and then there s an unmasking procedure in place if and when it s necessary to do so. i think, you know, over the course of the past year it s a very small number of
kimberly we won t take you literally, we never do. greg: did the syria strike change the story at all? i mean, did it, like, show maybe there isn t a collusion, or is it a cover-up? well, it s obviously not a cover-up but, okay, keep watching msnbc. obviously, this really changes the whole narrative from a geopolitical standpoint in terms of the stories, they ll come back into cycle again whether you should cover surveillance or whether you should cover collusion or cover both like we do. but really, obviously, this has dominated the news cycle. you saw we did it all, you know, the whole show on friday. greg: that was a joy. but it s an important story, and it needs to be covered and it was a substantive step in terms of shaping kind of donald trump s national security and foreign policy viewpoints. greg: rob, where do you sit on this nuñes, do you think there s collusion? do you think there are leaks? do you think one s more important than the other? well, there s going to
