Over the years, I have been amazed at how a few ingredients can turn into hundreds of different cookies.
Just about every recipe I have looked at or baked starts with 1 cup of butter (usually unsalted), 3/4 cup of sugar, more or less, and roughly 2 cups of flour. That s the basic formula. There might be an egg, a teaspoon of baking soda or baking powder, a pinch of salt, maybe cocoa powder, and then the big hits from vanilla or almond flavorings, spices and maybe chopped nuts. That s where you can get creative.
