11 Mayo beaches have been awarded Blue Flag status for 2021, while 6 Mayo beaches were given the Green Coast award.
Across the country, a record 93 Blue Flags for clean beaches and marinas have been awarded this year, an increase of two on last year, while there are 63 Green Coast awards.
The blue flag is a prestigious, international award assuring visitors that a beach has met minimum standards in water quality, facilities, safety, environmental education and management.
An Taisce has announced the awards today, with Donegal and Kerry leading the way again this year with 14 blue flags each, and Mayo has been awarded 11 blue flags.

Thirteen projects in communities around county Mayo are to be funded under the Mayo County Council Decade of Centenaries Grant 2021.
Details of the projects were outlined today at Mayo County Council s Culture and Heritage SPC
The aim of the commemorative funding is to ensure that events are remembered at community level in a respectful, measured, inclusive and non-partisan manner that recognize the differing perspectives on our shared history. The projects to be supported are:
Tourmakeady (and the Neale):
Collection, preservation and curating of memorabilia relating to the ambush
Mapping of significant locations
A large solar farm in Offaly has been given the green light by Offaly County Council. OBM Solar Ltd has been given the go ahead for the 132ha development at Sra.
Large solar energy farms planned for north Offaly

ANOTHER large solar energy and electricity storage project is planned for north Offaly.
Offaly Solar Energy AS Ltd is seeking permission for the energy scheme across 53ha at Lackan and Derries between Tullamore and Daingean.
Along with the solar panels, it is proposed that there will be 68 battery storage units and the power generated will be transmitted by an underground cable to the Thornsberry ESB sub-station.
According to the planning application documents, the grid connection will be 9km long and will run under the townlands of Derries, Lackan, Kilmurry, Derrygrogan Little and Big, Wood of O, Carndarragh, Derrynagall, Ballydaly, Puttaghaun and Ardan.
Hundreds of ESB customers left without power in Tullamore

357 ESB customers have been left without power following an outage in the Srah area of Tullamore.
The power cuts appear to be affecting the Arden road, Arden View, Srah road and Glendaniel area of the town.
Earlier, over 2,000 people were without power but they had been restored before 10am.
The ESB say they are working to restore power to remaining customers and have given 1pm for restoration.
