Workers at The Polytechnic Ibadan, on Monday, vowed not to succumb to pressure as they began an indefinite strike over the non-implementation of the minimum wage by the Oyo State Government.
A joint committee of all staff unions in the institution, comprising the academic and non-academic staff, held that the governing council and the Oyo State Government failed to implement the minimum wage for the workers.
The Chairman, Senior Staff Association of Nigeria, Ibadan Polytechnic branch, Abiodun Abegunde, said the matter must be addressed immediately.
While lauding the workers for their patience, Abegunde noted that the wage structure being demanded by the unions was lower than the amount being paid in sister institutions in other states.
