Education and the jobs. Thank you all very much. I hope you have a nice weekend. March 13th live to the effect the coronavirus is having on Nursing Homes. Live coverage here on cspan3. We join it in progress. Said, under no circumstances should a hospital discharge a patient to a nursing home that is not prepared to take care of those patients needs pap clear directive. Unfortunately on march 24th Governor Cuomos Health Department issued this directive in contradiction to the cms dai take covid19 patients. New jersey essentially copied the same directive from norcal order with similar deadly results. Two weeks earlier Governor Desantis in florida prohibited transfers kv s covid19 patient were positive to Nursing Homes. Very different orders resulting in very different results. And pennsylvania, continued to accept new admissions and readmissions including patients covid19 positive. While defending this decision even Pennsylvanias Health secretary moved her mother out of a nursing home.
Youre not the dominant race you are excluded from the courts and education and access we as a country try to you are wrong. We are not done with the journey almost every delegation under every flag everyone marching looks like. Until the United States marches in and you see this great diversity of athletes and it reminds us again in the past ten days should remind us we are not done so to do the hard work with their own families and do that legislative work that needs to be done to make progress but lets keep going. And tell it is done my friend said to me last weekend founding documents are great we just never live them out for everybody. I cannot wait for us to continue the work in this body toward becoming a more perfect union. I yield the floor. Las americanser gettembe for us to gather together but last monday gave us an opportunity that we should take every day to pause and remember the brave americans who gave their lives in defense of our country and we honor the sacrifices the
Protection program and businesses of all sizes have started to use the tax tools that we provided for their liquidity. But in that time the critics have also done what they do best. They criticize. The need came has seized on an opportunity to perpetuate every negative story that critics can manufacture. You can imagine my surprise when democrats criticized the net operating loss carryback provisions in the cares act. Because oddly democrats previously supported the last three bills where we expanded the net operating loss carrybacks in 2002, 2005, and even in 2009 with all democrat rule. So i dont recall in any of those instances any partisan attacks from democrats about this previously bipartisan, antirecessionary policy tools. So why now . Sadly, that irresponsibility has led our democratic colleagues in the house to pass legislation that would take back important tax tools that we have provided in the cares act to the tune of 254 billion, and thats a tax increase on the american bu
Before we proceed to todays hearing id like to take a moment to recognize last monday was memorial day. It was a different memorial day for me and other americans than normal and it was more difficult for us to gather together. But last monday gave us an opportunity, an opportunity that we should take every day to pause and remember the brave americans who gave their lives in defense of our country. And we honor the sacrifices they made to keep us free. While let me start by saying that the veterans we honored on memorial day, they served our country and that peaceful protests are a demonstration of the freedom our veterans served to safeguard and protect. And while we reject the defacing of our National Monuments i would take another moment to express my gratitude the National Park service, its employees and volunteers who quickly restored our memorials. All of them but especially those that recognize the service of our men and women particularly the world war ii memorial. I know that
Many, many veterans who have been defrauded by their schools these are usually forprofit schools to have federal student debt disbarred. Ten republicans joined with the democrats in march to reject this rule in the senate and pass this resolution, and i thank those on the other side of the aisle who stood up for the veterans and for students who have been defrauded. I urge President Trump to sign this bill without delay. More importantly than my urging, 30 different veterans organizations urge the president to sign our resolution. Were going to be giving a lot of speeches about veterans on the senate floor and back home over memorial day weekend. Heres a chance for the president to stand up for the veterans on memorial day weekend. In a march 13 letter to President Trump, these veterans asked him to ensure that, quote, the men and women who serve their country honorably are not burdened with student loans, the result from fraud. I ask consent that this letter be included in the record.
