Longevity of ICN
Members of the ICN have shared the difficulties of the nursing profession from the conception of the global federation, an example of which is sister Agnes Karll, who described the conditions under which nurses were working in during the First World War, stating that “the only thing we nurses are trying to do is endure the hard times, helping our surroundings as far as we can, and hope for better times to come in the future.”(Karll, 1923).
During these early years, the ICN was collecting information about nurses and nursing from its member NNAs, and then distributed appropriately among other NNAs and groups it would be beneficial to influence, including local governments and the general public.
